Chapter Events

Worldly Affairs

We are each a composite of our experiences: the events that occur and the opportunities that we take. Every move we make has an impact on someone, somewhere. And others’ lives—their ideas, decisions and activities—affect us, too. Yes, we are shaped by a series of experiences, but it’s how we interpret them, and act upon them, that molds the direction and meaning of our lives. Golden Key is constantly creating new opportunities for members to make a difference in their communities locally, regionally and internationally through leadership and service events around the world.

2017 August KUGKHS Ice Bucket Challenge, Cure for ALS!

Since the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge soaked the world three years ago, something has become clear: August is for raising awareness and funds to fight ALS! Every Drop Adds Up builds on the idea that when people come together, we can make the impossible happen.

This is Kaplan University Chapter's second year participating in this event and plan to make it an annual event! Join our Chapter Ice Bucket Challenge and help raise funds to help cure ALS!

Challenge your friends, family, classmates, community and public. Every drop counts and helps. All you need to do is get a bucket, fill with ice and water, press record, nominate others and dump! Accept the challenge and/or donate to the ALS Association at www.alsa.org. Share your video on our facebook website: https://www.facebook.com/KUGKHS/

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. Learn more about the disease and ways to help: http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html

Make the impossible happen...again. This August and every August until there is a cure!

2017 American Diabetes Association South Florida Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes

The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading 501(C)3 nonprofit charity providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes takes place across the country and is the premiere walk event supporting all people living with diabetes. We walk annually to raise critical funds and show support for all people living with diabetes. The Step Out Walk directly supports research, education and advocacy for people living with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. Step Out participants commit to walk and raise money in this inspirational event not only because nearly 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because they more than likely know someone who is living with the everyday challenges of diabetes.

Annual October Spark A Change Event: Jumpstart's-Read for the Record

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® highlights the importance of high quality early learning for all children. Each year on October 19th, Read for the Record Day, people gather in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and homes across the U.S. to read our chosen Read for the Record book to children in the community. Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience—bringing together over 2 million people to read the same book on the same day. This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to bring national attention to inequities in early childhood education and as a way to inspire adults to read with children and put books in the hands of more children across the country.

This is Kaplan University's second year participating! Last year our officers launched a Read for the Record in 3 states: Maine, Florida and California; bringing 100s of children, adults, and community leaders together for the love of reading.  This year’s campaign book, Quackers by Liz Wong, is a wonderful story that follows a kitten who grows up believing he is a duck. This tale is about understanding, acceptance, and learning it’s ok to be whoever you want to be. For more information on how to join our chapter's multiple locations please contact Wade Hill, Chapter President at wade.hill@midmaine.com.

If you would like more information about Read for the Record or how to register an event please follow this link: https://www.jstart.org/read-for-the-record/

Join the millions of children and adults who’ll be participating in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® this year!
